The Heritage Centre starts with the dramatic geological beginnings, the archaeology of early settlement and on through the centuries to modern day Unst. Our exhibits and interactive displays will guide you through the role of industry, crofting, knitting, education, religion and Unst’s unique position in the defence of Britain.
Highlights include our collection of some of the best examples of Fine Lace Knitting, the amazing story of the building of Muckle Flugga Lighthouse and the history of some of our favourite residents, Shetland Ponies.
The Unst Heritage Centre is also the Visitor Information Point for Unst and our friendly Visitor Service Assistants will be happy to help you plan the rest of your visit and answer any questions you might have. Also available is the self-guided walk booklet to explore the ruined settlements of Burral and Sandwick.
